Making schoolboy errors often leads to repercussions in professional sports. Haryana all-rounder Rahul Tewatia felt a similar moment during the Gujarat Titans versus Mumbai Indians clash in the 2025 Indian Premier League after embarrassingly getting run out without even facing a delivery.

Winning the toss and electing to field first, the new ball brilliance at the start was neutralized by a 66-run powerplay by B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. Although the skipper was dismissed, the Tamil Nadu southpaw’s fifty anchored the innings amidst cameos from the Titans’ middle order. As the job came down to the finishers to catalyse the score towards the 200-run mark, Tewatia ended up walking off the field in an embarrassing way for a diamond duck.

On the first ball of the 19th over, Deepak Chahar dished a length ball outside the stumps that Sherfane Rutherford patted towards mid off where Hardik Pandya attempted a direct hit. The batters hurried for a single, and Tewatia was lethargic to complete the single, keeping his bat in the air when the Mumbai Indians skipper executed the direct hit perfectly. Simultaneously, Rutherford completed his single and was almost looking to convert it, standing in the centre of the pitch. As the TV umpire was referred, it was vivid that Tewatia’s bat was in their air when the ball dislodged the bails, resulting in an out. The GT dugout was shocked to see Tewatia dismiss for a diamond duck due to his stupidity, and the Twitterverse was left astonished.

What was that?

What a throw!

Brilliant from Hardik!

He is not having a good time!

LOL!

The evolution of hitting in T20 cricket has forced bowlers to ask themselves how slow is slow enough for a variation, their speeds often dipping to the 80ks in search for respite. Satyanarayan Raju took things a step further on Saturday with an extreme slower one that Jos Buttler dealt with well.
