Cricket is a game of failures, where the rare successes can often define the narrative of players and talents. No wonder then that throwing away a good start is considered the most cardinal sin for a top-order batter, a fate Yashasvi Jaiswal suffered at the hands of Anshul Kamboj in Delhi.

‌‌Chennai Super Kings once again failed to make the most of the wicket, against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. A quickfire start courtesy of Ayush Mhatre and some belligerent shotmaking in the middle overs from Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube gave way to a flaccid showing at the death, the team's tally of 28 runs off the final four only enough to take them to 187/8. The situation only got worse when they came out to defend as Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in a mood, the young opener unafraid to take on the swinging ball against Khaleeel Ahmed. Three boundaries and a maximum off the left-arm quick in the third over meant Yashasvi raced past 30 at a strike rate exceeding 200 and threatened to take the game away before it could even become a proper contest. Luckily for the Yellow Army, Anshul Kamboj was at hand to prevent such a disaster but the wicket did not come without some help from the southpaw himself.

Kamboj, into his second over, was still looking to pitch the ball up seeking for movement in the air and Jaiswal was quick to dispatch the third delivery over mid-off's head for a boundary. Beaming with confidence, Jaiswal did not hesitate in hoicking the next ball too, and it was all the opening Kamboj needed. The pacer pitched the ball shorter and slightly straighter, the deviation enough to make the Kookaburra sneak under Jaiswal's willow while catching some of the inside edge enroute to the stumps.

Kamboj was ecstatic having provided his team the opening breakthrough while Jaiswal simply walked away with his head hung in disappointment, the calm eeriness of his dismissal telling Twitterati the story of what could have been.
