Controversy or Correct Call? Angkrish Raghuvanshis Dismissal Decoded
Angkrish Raghuvanshi was given out obstructing the field in the clash against LSG. This even led to a heated debate between the coach and the umpire, but nothing changed. However, his wicket has also sparked a controversy, as fans argue whether it was the right call or not.
Kolkata Knight Riders surely won the last game against LSG but there was a moment they could never forget. That was the wicket of Angkrish Raghuvanshi. He attempted to take a single where Green denied, so he was heading back to the crease. In his dive, he accidentally came in the way of the delivery.
And this was appealed by the LSG skipper Rishabh Pant. Eventually, the umpires gave out to Raghuvanshi, as fans argued whether it was right or not. The rule related to this wicket says, "If a batter, in running between the wickets, significantly changes direction without probable cause and thereby obstructs a fielder’s attempt to effect a run out, the batter should, on appeal, be given out. It is irrelevant whether a run out would have occurred.”
Some other incidents where players have been given out obstructing the field in the IPL are as follows:
Yusuf Pathan
Yusuf Pathan became the first player to do it, back in 2013 against PWI. He deliberately kicked the ball to prevent it from being collected by the fielders.
Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra was also given out in this manner during the IPL 2019 Eliminator. The ball hit him while he was running towards the stumps, and the umpire thought it to be deliberate. This made him 2nd and the only player to be dismissed like this in the IPL playoffs.
Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja was given out in this way in the IPL 2024 season. During the match against RR, he tried to stop the throw, which made him the third player to face this ruling.
