Hardik Pandya’s return to the Mumbai Indians has been a journey of loss for the Mumbai Indians as they failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2024, finished in Qualifier 2 in 2025, and are at the 9th position in the points table in 2026 under Hardik Pandya.

The IPL 2022 came out as one of the best seasons for Hardik Pandya, who became the IPL-winning captain for the Gujarat Titans and scored 487 runs in 15 matches for the team. Even in 2023, Gujarat played the Finals but ended up on the losing side as Hardik Pandya captained the team in 31 matches and won 22 of them with a win percentage of 70.96. For the IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya came back to the Mumbai Indians and took over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, while the Gujarat Titans gave the captaincy to Shubman Gill.

With this, the trade deal soon turned out to be a disaster for both teams. In IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians finished in last position with 4 wins out of 14 matches, while the Gujarat Titans finished at 8th position with 5 wins in 14 matches. In the IPL 2025, the Mumbai Indians finished their journey in Qualifier-2 while Gujarat was knocked out in the Eliminator. For the Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya has a win percentage of 41.66 in the 36 matches and has just 15 wins, while Shubman Gill has 18 wins in the 34 matches played.

As a player, Hardik Pandya has struggled with both bat and ball after returning back to the Mumbai Indians. Being a batsman, he has scored just 568 runs in the 36 matches played, while as a bowler, he has been able to pick just 29 wickets so far.

Our Take

With Hardik Pandya joining the Mumbai Indians back in 2024, it turned out to be a trade deal that impacted both the Gujarat Titans and the Mumbai Indians. Gujarat lost their captain, who was performing well and would have become the new face of the IPL, while the Mumbai Indians sacked Rohit Sharma from the captaincy and gave it to Hardik Pandya, who has been unable to make it big for the franchise.
