Watch, BEN vs J&K | Akash Deep produces jaffa to send Shubham Khajuria’s off stump cartwheeling
There is no better feeling for a pacer than uprooting the timber of a batter and Akash Deep relived that during the Ranji Trophy semifinal game against Jammu and Kashmir. The Bengal pacer bowled a jaffa to go past the defence of opener Shubham Khajuria before sending his off stump flying.
The pace duo of Auqib Nabi and Sunil Kumar wreaked havoc with four-wicket hauls to shoot the hosts out for a paltry 99 in above 25 overs at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground. And that meant the visitors were well on course to reach a historic maiden summit clash of the premier domestic red-ball tournament in India.
However, the start did not look promising as Akash Deep dismissed Shubham Khajuria for his second single-digit score of the game. Sharing the new cherry with veteran Shami, Akash breathed fire and was right on the money in his very first over.
The Indian pacer bowled from slightly wide of the crease to push one into the batter from a good length around off stump. Khajuria played for the incoming delivery, but the ball straightened a tad bit after coming in from an angle.
As a result, the batter ended up missing the ball before hearing the wretched noise that every willow wielder hates to listen to. The ball raced on to hit the top of off stump before uprooting it. The frustrated batter, who was completely outplayed, started his walk back as the stumps flew and came to a halt near the wicketkeeper. Meanwhile, Akash was visibly elated and charged as he pumped his fist in the air with the teammates running in to congratulate him.
Absolute peach!
Cleaned him up 👊
