Rajasthan Royals might have the chance to change their future in the Indian Premier League. When fans expected RCB to get new owners, new ground, and more for the upcoming season, Rajasthan played a wild card. The team is reportedly having some great plans for the upcoming seasons.

The IPL might get more intense in the upcoming seasons, as the teams are planning to have some massive changes. Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been in the news for the same, but there is another name added to the list. And it is the Rajasthan Royals, who were the winners of the inaugural edition of the IPL.

They are also expected to have some massive changes ready for the upcoming IPL edition. The team is likely to have new owners soon, which might even result in a name change for them. Also, some reports talk about how the team is planning to get Gautam Gambhir, once his tenure with the Indian team comes to an end.

Rajasthan Royals Massive Strategy

Rajasthan Royals is being owned by several individuals but the majority of the stake of the team is about to be sold to the new owners. There is no confirmation about the same but reports are being spread all over the internet. And the new owners of the team are expected to make a move which no one could have expected.

They have decided to offer not one but three roles in the team, to the Indian team's Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir. It has been almost two years since Gambhir was a part of any IPL team in the coaching role. At that time also, he led Kolkata Knight Riders to win the IPL 2024 season and become one of the dominant teams in the tournament history with three trophies.

The new owners of the Rajasthan Royals have sent Gambhir a proposal for three roles. These roles include partner, CEO, and mentor. The report said, “A majority of Rajasthan Royals shareholders are selling their stake to the new owners. The deal is currently in a transferable state. One of the owners in RR’s new management has offered Gambhir a two-to-three per cent stake, in addition to the roles of CEO and mentor.”

It should be noted that since he is a part of the Indian team right now, Gautam Gambhir cannot accept the coaching role in IPL. A Supreme Court ruling has ensured that no coach is able to participate simultaneously in the IPL and international games. So, if the Indian Head Coach wants to accept the proposal of RR, he must step down as the Indian Head Coach.

But he has shown no indications that he is stepping down from his post. This also means that Rajasthan Royals will have to wait till the 2027 World Cup, after which they might have a chance to get Gambhir to these roles.

Gambhir Reveals His Key Goal

Gautam Gambhir has shown success to the Indian team, only in the limited overs format. While the team has struggled in the Test format, the success in the ODI and T20Is remain unmatched. With him, the Indian team went through its first ICC tournament in the Champions Trophy 2025. The duo of Gambhir and Rohit helped India to come out on top and win the title.

Later, Gambhir was also able to help India dominate in the Asia Cup. India went on to win the Asia Cup 2025 in a historic final clash against Pakistan. Now, he is leading the defending champions of the T20 World Cup 2026 in a home campaign, where India is expected to come out on top.

But recently, Gambhir also revealed his plans which extend beyond his tenure as the Head Coach. He revealed that he wants to win the Olympic Gold medal with the Indian team. The Olympics will be taking place in 2028, while his tenure with the team will come to an end in 2027 after the ODI World Cup.

What Happened When RR Last Signed India's Head Coach?

This is not the first time when Rajasthan Royals has signed an Indian Head Coach after his tenure came to an end. The team also did it with the previous Head Coach, Rahul Dravid. After having a successful T20 World Cup with the Indian team, his campaign as the coach came to an end and he declined to be the Head Coach again.

At this moment, he reunited with Rajasthan Royals, as his former IPL team signed him as the Head Coach. But that particular season did not go well for the team, as they finished at the second last spot in the IPL 2025 edition. After the season, the team had to bid farewell to Rahul Dravid as his tenure as a head coach lasted for just one season.
