Joburg Super Kings beat Durban’s Super Giants in a thrilling super over tie in the SA20 in Johannesburg on Thursday. Donovan Ferreira played a key role with his direct hit from behind the stumps off the last ball, denying a win to the Super Giants and extending the game to the one-over eliminator.

‌Joburg Super Kings won a thrilling super over contest against Durban’s Super Giants in Johannesburg to continue their unbeaten run in the SA20 this year. Shubham Ranjane scored an unbeaten half-century in 31 balls, while Donovan Ferreira came up with a delightful cameo of 33 in just 10 balls, including four sixes, to power the Super Kings to 205/4 after being put into bat first at The Wanderers Stadium.

In return, the Super Giants' innings also ended at 205/8, courtesy of Ferreira’s ice-cool composure from behind the wicket. With just one needed from the last ball, Wiaan Mulder bowled a short of a length delivery outside the arc of Simon Harmer.

The batter failed to make contact with his willow as the ball went straight to wicketkeeper Ferreira. However, the non-striker Eathan Bosch ran straightaway with nothing to lose for the visitors. With his throwing-arm glove already off and behind him, Ferreira held his nerve and aimed for the stumps.

The ball hit the wicket on the bounce with Bosch nowhere in the frame and Ferreira wildly running around in celebration, pumping his left fist. The Super Giants players walked back in disappointment before the Super Over piled further misery on them. Twitter was on the edge as the home side won their third game in a row, with Ferreira being the architect of their thrilling victory.
