‌MI Cape Town finally got their first win in their sixth match in the SA20 2025-26 season with a four-wicket victory over Joburg Super Kings in Cape Town on Wednesday. In a rain-shortened game, the visitors made 123/7 in their allotted 12 overs with Faf du Plessis top-scoring with a 21-ball 44, a knock that included seven fours and two sixes. CorbinBosch and Rashid Khan shone for the hosts with the ball, picking up three and two wickets, respectively, in their three-over spells. In return, MI chased down the target to end at 128/6 with four balls to spare, courtesy of entertaining cameos from Nicholas Pooran (33) and Jason Smith (22).

But the result could have been different, not for Reeza Hendricks' amazing effort on the boundary line to dismiss dangerman Faf du Plessis. With the Super Kings cruising at 69/2 after six overs, the hosts’ skipper Rashid Khan brought himself into the attack and found instant rewards.

But the wicket was as much Hendricks’ as it was the Afghan leg spinner’s, ending the Super Kings’ skipper’s stay in the middle and denying him a well-deserved half-century. As Du Plessis moved away from the stumps to make room for himself just before the ball was bowled, the leggie decided to chase him with a good length delivery on leg stump.

The veteran batter still went for the big hit but did not get the desired connection, keeping Hendricks interested at long on. But just as the ball looked like clearing the ropes by the barest of margins, the MI batter timed his jump to perfection to catch the ball and land just in front of the cushion.

But the momentum of his jump carried him beyond the ropes, and Hendricks coolly threw the ball in the air to go out of the playing area before coming back on time to complete a tricky catch with ease. That fielding effort single-handedly changed the course of the game, as the visitors could make only 49 runs in the last five overs.
