Batters often find themselves at crossroads running against powerful throws from in-fielders, and Mohammad Rizwan was dealt a blow in the BBL game against Sydney Thunder. The Melbourne Renegades batter was at the receiving end after failing to evade a full-blooded throw and getting hit on the back.

‌After a slow start, Melbourne Renegades recovered well against Sydney Thunder to be placed at 83/1 after nine overs in their Big Bash League match in Sydney on Monday. But they endured a collapse, slipping to 90/4 inside two overs, with Mohammad Rizwan and Hassan Khan joining hands to steady the ship yet again.

The pair hit four sixes and two fours in the next five overs to take the side to a decent 139/4, and laid the foundation to usher in the hits towards the end of the innings. Left-arm seamer Daniel Sams was reintroduced into the attack to cut the run-flow and provide the home side with a crucial breakthrough.

Just then, the game had a lighter moment with Rizwan getting hit awkwardly by a throw from short third. With Sams giving away no width and bowling a hard length, the Renegads’ wicketkeeper-batter tried to cut the ball from very close to his body.

As a result, he toe-ended the shot with the ball flying towards the fielder inside the 30-yard circle. The batter, who started off for a quick single, was immediately sent back by his partner Hassan. Though Rizwan scrambled back to make the crease in the nick of time, he could not save himself from the throw.

The Pakistan batter was on his knees just as he put his bat inside the crease and immediately tried bending down to an incoming fierce throw. Though he took his head out of the way, the ball went on to hit his back before ballooning to Sams, who was trying to back up.

The left-arm seamer made a funny appeal after catching the ball before walking back to his mark with a sheepish smile. By that time, Rizwan was back on his feet, rubbed his back with a wide grin, before giving a thumbs up to his partner at the other end.

Ouch! That will pain!
