Day 1 of the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan has come to an end. India was batting first in this game, and the entire day belonged to them. Shubman Gill and KL Rahul remained the stars, as both of them were able to smash centuries for the team.

‌The Indian team has received one of the most commanding starts in the Test match against Afghanistan. Shubman Gill knew that the pitch would be good to bat early, and would support the bowlers as the days progressed. Due to this reason, he decided to bat first, allowing the Indian batsmen to showcase their best.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for just 24 runs, but after that, all the batters caused a rampage. KL Rahul went on to score 100 runs off 165 balls, while Sai Sudharsan also gave a strong start at number three. Sudharsan came close to his ton but he was dismissed at the score of 81, missing out on his maiden century once again.
Even after their wickets, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant held their ends firm. Gill went on to score yet another Test century, marking his comeback in the longest format in style. Rishabh Pant was also able to score a half-century, as India finished day 1 at the score of 368/3.

Our Take

It is indeed a strong start by the Indian team in the one off Test against Afghanistan. Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant will aim to continue this momentum when the team returns to bat on day 2. If India manages to post above 450 and declares, it would be enough for their experienced bowlers to take down Afghanistan and hand a win to the Indian team.
