Kris Srikkanth Backs Virat Kohlis Chances Ahead of the 2027 World Cup
Virat Kohli is only playing in the ODI format for the Indian cricket team. And he is doing it for the one final goal, which is the ODI World Cup 2027. Kris Srikkanth, former Indian cricketer, talked about the importance of Virat Kohli in the Indian cricket team for the big tournament.
The Indian team and fans are missing Virat Kohli in the blue jersey, as he is not a part of the series against Afghanistan. While he had a spectacular time in the Indian Premier League, he suffered with an injury in the final clash. Although his recovery has been completed, he will be coming back to the team in the England series.
And with his performances in the recent ODI series, Kohli has shown that he is ready for the 2027 World Cup. In his unavailability for the Afghanistan series, the Indian team has tried out a few players at the number three position. Amidst all this, a former Indian cricketer has talked about Kohli's availability for the big tournament.
Kris Srikkanth said, “With someone like Virat Kohli, I believe you should let him decide his own future, much like Sachin Tendulkar did. Virat is that great a player. He knows what to do and what not to do. He is a very balanced individual. What I admire most about him is his commitment to the game and the fact that he is a big team man. He has also been one of the finest Test captains India has ever produced. The only thing missing from his captaincy record is an ICC trophy. Otherwise, in my opinion, Virat Kohli is one of the best captains India has produced.”
Our Take
Virat Kohli will surely be an important asset for the Indian team in the 2027 World Cup. He was the highest run-scorer for the team in the previous edition and even broke an all-time record made by Sachin Tendulkar. Even though he is aged 37, he still shows his consistency for the Indian team with each passing game.
