Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan were dominant in the second ODI against Afghanistan. Both of them smashed tons, as they made a 224 runs stand for the third wicket. But still they haven't topped the partnership with the highest run rate in 200+ run stands.

Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan showed what batting dominance looks like in the second ODI against Afghanistan. When both openers failed to get big scores, Gill and Kishan powered the Indian team to a massive total. Both of them smashed tons and showed a new duo to the Indian fans.

In their partnership of 224 runs, the duo just took 140 balls, meaning that their run rate was standing at 9.60 runs per over. This is a high run rate, considering the fact that it was an ODI game for the Indian team. Even after having such a high run rate, they failed to top the charts for Indian pairs having the best run rate in 200+ run partnerships.

The top place being held in this record is by KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, in the 2023 World Cup. Both of them went on to score 208 runs for the team off just 128 balls for the fourth wicket, putting their run rate at 9.82 runs per over.

Our Take

Even though Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill dominated the Afghanistan bowlers, they didn't dominate to the extent at which KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer did back in 2023. Moreover, the stand by KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer came in the World Cup, where the stakes remain high in every game. It remains to be seen which pair breaks the record created by KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer for having the highest run rate in 200+ run partnerships.
