Have India Women Laid the Foundation for a Maiden T20 World Cup Title?

India Women's team has now shown a similar pattern to win the Women's T20 World Cup. Even after losing to South Africa, that loss is being considered more as a win for the team. India has won the last three ICC events when they lost to South Africa.

After yesterday's loss against South Africa Women, India Women may have been on the same path as they were for the 2025 World Cup. While this loss has lowered their chances of reaching the semi-final stages, the team still has a chance to make it. Moreover, looking at India's last two ICC events, it seems that history is set to be written.

If we take a look at the Men's T20 World Cup which happened this year, the Indian team suffered a loss against South Africa. And with that being their only loss in the tournament, India also went on to win the finals and become three time champions.

Along with that, this was also the script when India Women's team won their first ever World Cup title. Last year when India hosted the tournament, the team lost its league game against South Africa Women. And later in the final match, they went on to defeat South Africa Women to win the title.

Our Take

India Women do have a chance to write the same script for the Women's T20 World Cup. This will make it much similar to their title win last year in the Women's World Cup, as they will be able to win their maiden T20 World Cup too. But realistically, it will be a bit challenging, as India Women will be going against Australia Women in their final group stage game, which makes their qualification more challenging.
