India will be continuing its World Test Championship cycle late in this year. The schedule of the Indian team has been revealed, with Test cricket coming back soon for the fans to relive the longest format. India currently stands 6th in the WTC standings.

While India has not been able to do well in Test cricket right now, fans are still waiting for the team's upcoming Test matches. Following the series against South Africa, it has been a long time since India played a Test match. However, the team's schedule for the upcoming cricket season has been revealed.

And this schedule also shows India's upcoming Test matches, marking the approximate dates for Test cricket to return. Fans will be able to relive Test format again in June, when Afghanistan visits India. The Afghanistan tour of India will feature a one off Test too, as India aims to get a fresh start after the previous losses at home.

Along with that, India will play four more Tests this year which are a part of the World Test Championship cycle. These will be a part of two away series in Sri Lanka and New Zealand. The series against Sri Lanka will take place in August, while the series against New Zealand will be taking place in October-November.

Our Take

The Indian team is going through a transition phase in the Test format. Shubman Gill has led the team well even in this challenging situation, but India still stands at the 6th spot in the WTC standings. Gill has also made it clear that he wants to play the WTC final in 2027, but that looks close to impossible.

India will have to win at least 7 or 8 out of their remaining 9 games in this cycle. But with the team in its transition phase, it seems challenging for India to tackle all the opponents. The series against Australia at home will be India's last, as they host the Aussies in a five match test series. It should be noted that the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy made India enter its transition phase.
