Over the last few months, fans have been speculating on who could be buying Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Their previous owners, Diageo Limited, had already put the team on sale and it was expected to be completed before IPL 2026 commences. Reportedly, the team has now been sold for a massive price of 16,705 crore rupees.

And the new owners of the team are the renowned Aditya Birla Group. The sale of RCB at a whopping price also marks history in the IPL, making them the highest valued team. However, it should be noted that RCB is not being solely owned by the Aditya Birla Group, as it is being sold to a consortium.

This consortium had three other names along with the Aditya Birla Group at the top. These names include Satyan Gajwani from the Times of India Group, Blackstone, who is a global leading private equity firm, and David Blitzer, who is a renowned American sports investor.

Our Take

The sale of Royal Challengers Bengaluru also marks a new start for the team. They have been doing well across both IPL and WPL over the last three years, bringing in trophies consecutively. With the new owners, several changes are also expected to be made within the team's management.

Their previous owners, Diageo Limited, wanted to sell off the team for a long time. Even after RCB had won the IPL 2025, they had to wait for putting the team on sale due to the deadly stampede. Now with the sale process completed, RCB has etched another history in the Indian Premier League.
