BCCI Official Explains Why Chinnaswamy Didnt Get IPL Final
Chinnaswamy Stadium was one of the key contenders to host the IPL 2026 final. But the schedule had a change in venue, with the final being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium. BCCI official, Devajit Saikia, revealed the actual reason why Chinnaswamy Stadium lost the hosting rights.
The IPL finals are generally hosted at the home-ground of the defending champions. But that didn't happen over the last few years, including the IPL 2026 season as well. With RCB winning the title last year, Chinnaswamy Stadium stood as a key contender to host the final clash. The schedule for League stages was announced but the playoffs schedule was announced later.
When it was announced, the finals were scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Chinnaswamy Stadium was neglected from hosting the finals, which also raised questions. Finally, the BCCI official, Devajit Saikia, revealed the actual reason behind the same. He said that the Karnataka State Cricket Association asked for 10,000 extra tickets.
This also included the tickets for MLAs, which became the major reason why it lost the hosting rights. The rules say that only 15% of the stadium capacity can be given to the host association as a form of complimentary tickets. But the demand of 10,000 tickets by the Karnataka State Cricket Association was way too high.
Our Take
Devajit Saikia has given a bold statement on the KSCA, and the allegations have been put against them. It remains to be seen how the Karnataka State Cricket Association will be responding to the statements made by him. But in the clash between the KSCA and BCCI, it was the Chinnaswamy fans who lost in the end. Only five home games of RCB were scheduled at this venue which have also been played. Moreover, despite being the defending champions, they didn't get to host even a single playoffs match.
