Delhi Capitals started off their innings well, with KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka scoring 55 runs together in the powerplay itself. Rahul looked well, as he anchored the innings with ease, as Nissanka took the charge against the bowlers before losing his wicket to Vaibhav Arora.

In the middle overs, Kolkata Knight Riders fought back with the help of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, who dismissed Karun Nair and Nitish Rana. Rahul continued to dominate the bowlers as he scored 62, while Tristan Stubbs gave a late cameo, which helped Delhi Capitals to post a competitive total of 178/6 in 20 overs.

In reply to this total, Kolkata Knight Riders had an impressive start, with Finn Allen attacking the bowlers at his very best. But it was Mitchell Starc who struck early, as he dismissed Allen and Angkrish Raghuvanshi to put the pressure on the Knight Riders.

The turning point arrived when Kuldeep Yadav took the wickets of Cameron Green and Ajinkya Rahane in quick succession, which shifted the momentum. Rinku Singh was able to provide a cameo by scoring 48 runs, but he didn't receive the required support from the other end.
