Chennai Super Kings played an entire IPL season without MS Dhoni. After being knocked out of the tournament, Gaikwad was asked about the availability of Dhoni in next season. He replied by saying that even the team is not sure whether he will play or not.

For the first time in the history of IPL, MS Dhoni has gone to miss the entire season. Even though he was a part of the tournament, he never made it to the playing XI due to the injury issues. Yesterday, Chennai Super Kings went against Gujarat Titans in a must win game to reach the playoffs.

And unfortunately, the team ended up losing by 89 runs, marking its biggest loss in IPL history. Following this, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the skipper, was present in a post match presentation, where he was also asked some questions about MS Dhoni. The team veteran didn't play even a single game, despite being in the line-up for the entire season.

Gaikwad responded to Dhoni's availability for the 2027 season by saying, “You and I'll get to know it next year. It's a hard miss for us. He can come in those late overs and change the game just by staying on the crease. Never know about next season, but really happy with the guys we have.”

Our Take

Even Ruturaj Gaikwad sounded confused when the question on MS Dhoni's availability for the 2027 IPL came. It still remains unclear whether we will be able to see Captain Cool in the upcoming season or not. He is already 44 years old, and if he makes it to the next season, it would make him the oldest player to feature in the Indian Premier League. But still, it all relies on Dhoni and the decision he takes before the next season begins.
