Rajasthan Royals have made it to the IPL playoffs, with Riyan Parag at the helm. Kumar Sangakkara praised his captaincy, noting the criticism he received over the last few seasons. Parag goes on with his goal to win IPL 2026 as a captain.

Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara seems to have expressed his support for the young gun Riyan Parag, appreciating the man for his ability to tackle years of criticism with maturity. Parag has been criticised more on social media over the past seven years than “I have ever seen,” Sangakkara said when appearing in front of the media recently.

Parag has been in with the Rajasthan Royals club and at times the fans scrutinise him for poor performances and his off-the-field attitude. But the Assam batsman is much better than that in the last few IPL seasons and has emerged as one of RR's important batsmen in the middle-order.

Sangakkara pointed out that online trolling can be one aspect that can be challenging for young cricketers, but proving to be Parag Pushpakumara's mental hurdle to overcome, as he struggled hard in the background and remained dedicated to improving his performance and his game. The old innovator of the Sri Lankan side also stated that the youth has grown not just as a player, but as a young man, as well.

Our Take

If Riyan Parag received trolling to a great extent, he also deserves the credit of Rajasthan Royals success this season. It is not Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's batting or Jofra Archer's bowling alone, it is the captaincy of Riyan Parag which played a crucial role.
