Gerard Pique has said that he believes Harry Maguire can help Manchester United win the Premier League in the near future. The former Leicester City star joined Red Devils for a world record sum this summer, but his performances have been all over the field with United on a two-game winless streak.

If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could have signed only one player this summer, that man would have been Harry Maguire with his fee coming somewhere close to what Manchester United eventually paid. That is how insistent the Norwegian was that Maguire could make a difference and the verdict is still out on the 26-year-old as a Red Devil.

His first game won him plaudits but with Manchester United struggling to maintain a winning run, Maguire’s performances have also suffered. But that doesn’t matter to Gerard Pique, with the former Manchester United star going on to say that he believes Maguire will help United to a Premier League title.

"It happened before with Van Dijk and before about ten years ago with Rio Ferdinand. Culturally they invest a lot in good defenders and Harry Maguire is a great defender. I hope that they can be at the top again,” Pique told Express Sport.

“Manchester United in the last few years they have been fighting to qualify for the Champions League but they have to be trying to win the Premier League. I hope with this signing they can return to the top."
