Mumbai City FC has announced a one-year contract extension of Modou Sougou for the upcoming Indian Super League season 6 on Tuesday. The Senegalese striker had played an important role in Mumbai’s campaign in the previous season where they had entered the semi-finals of the league.

After a sensational show in the forward line for the Mumbai-based club in the fifth season of the Indian Super League, Sougou will continue with the same team in the next season as well. This will come as good news for the Mumbain supporters, with Sougou playing a crucial role as the Islanders reached the semi-final of the league last season.

The 34-year-old striker from Senegal had made his debut in the Indian league last year against Jamshedpur FC which was also the first game of the season for the Islanders. However, his first goal came against Pune in the Maharashtra Derby in mid-October. His best show came against Kerala Blasters, where he netted four goals in the match, as Mumbai won the match 6-1.

The striker had scored 12 goals from 18 matches last season which was also the joint-highest for the league. Earlier, in his career, Sougou had played for the Portuguese club Moreirense FC where he was on loan from Sheffield.
