Reports | Bayern Munich accept defeat in their pursuit to sign Leroy Sane

Manchester City star Leroy Sane has been heavily linked with a move away, with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich his top suitor this summer. The Bavarian giants have publicly identified the 24-year-old as one of their top targets but have now accepted that a deal may not take place this summer.

With Bayern Munich looking to move on from an era dominated by Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery, the Bavarian giants have shortlisted Leroy Sane as their top replacement. They’ve been persistently linked with a move for the former Schalke star this summer, with both Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich also trying to convince the forward to join.

However, Sky Sports and the Daily Mail has reported that Bayern have finally given up hope that the move will not happen this summer. The 24-year-old winger returned from his post-season holiday and has shown no intentions of leaving Manchester City. Sky Sports has also revealed that the transfer fee would be nothing less than a £100 million.

That is problematic for Bayern as the club have already spent in excess of £100 million by adding Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez alone. It’s why the Bundesliga champions were only willing to go as high as £70 million, to stay within financial fair play rules.

Bayern’s targets have now changed with Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi, Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele and former Arsenal target Yannick Carrasco back on their radar.
