Reports | Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco enquire about Arsenal star Shkodran Mustafi
Arsenal star Shkodran Mustafi has been linked with a move to AS Monaco, with the Ligue 1 side willing to meet Arsenal’s €30 million valuation. The German has made more than his fair share of high profile errors over the last few years, which has seen Arsenal start looking for alternatives.
Ever since his arrival from Valencia in 2016, Shkodran Mustafi has struggled to establish himself as a star at the Emirates stadium. Things have become so bad for the 2014 World Cup winner, with fans even booing his substitution during the Emirates Cup clash against Olympique Lyon.
However, that could all change with Ligue 1 giants Monaco showing an interest in the centre-back, even enquiring about his availability with them looking to add a new center-back this summer. L’Equipe has claimed that the Gunners value Mustafi at around €30 million, with the BBC reporting that Arsenal are keen on letting him go.
It further adds that while the 27-year-old wants to stay and prove himself, Arsenal wants either a permanent move or a loan spell for the German international. After failing to qualify for the Champions League, Arsenal boss Unai Emery is more than ready to cash in on the German center-back. The club hoped that potential moves for Mesut Ozil, Mustafi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan would be enough to raise funds for a good transfer window.
But that changed the moment Laurent Koscielny decided that he had no future at Arsenal, which could change Mustafi’s status. Rob Holding is still not fit and William Saliba, who was signed recently from Saint-Etienne, has been loaned back to the French side.
It’s also why Emery is still keen on adding another central defender but is faced with a few time constraints. However, even with less than 8 days left for the window to close, Arsenal still hopes to complete moves for both Nicolas Pepe and Kieran Tierney, alongside another center-back.
