Reports | Napoli set to make a move for Mauro Icardi
Napoli have re-ignited their interest in Mauro Icardi, with the Naples side reportedly approaching Inter Milan over a potential deal. The Argentina star has been out of favour at the San Siro and has been told to find a new club before the season starts by new manager Antonio Conte.
Mauro Icardi’s ongoing transfer saga with Inter Milan seems to be coming to an end with Napoli the frontrunners to sign the Argentine. Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport has reported that the Partenopei have re-ignited their interest in the out of favour Inter striker. After a mediocre season in the Serie-A last year, scoring just 11 goals, Icardi fell out of favour at Inter Milan and was subsequently dropped by then manager Luciano Spalletti.
This came after a huge saga involving Icardi’s wife Wanda Nara which culminated in Icardi being stripped as captain and it followed a 40 day absence from training. Now with new manager Antonio Conte looking to shape the club to his own philosophy, he’s revealed that Icardi doesn’t have a future at Inter anymore.
The forward has already missed the club’s pre-season tour of Asia via mutual consent, opening the door to a move away from the San Siro. Further reports have indicated that both Inter and Napoli have come closer to an agreement, with Napoli owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis and Inter CEO, Giuseppe Marotta having met to proceed with the negotiations.
The Inter Milan forward has been offered a contract worth around £7.5 million a year by Napoli which was initially overlooked by Icardi’s agent and wife, Wanda Nara. Furthermore, Napoli manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has made it clear how much he values and likes Icardi as a football player. The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss said that he finds that the 26-year-old is a quality player and added that he has always worked with great strikers.
