AIFF Super Cup | Reports: AIFF refuses to reschedule matches given as walkovers

Just when the week-long controversy between the I-League and AIFF had seemingly ended, a new blockade has come up with the federation now unwilling to restart the Super Cup all over again. I-League clubs Minerva Punjab, Gokulam Kerala FC, and Aizawl FC had refused to turn up for their Super Cup qualifiers scheduled on March 15 and March 16.

While Punjab were supposed to face FC Pune City, Kerala were to be up against Delhi Dynamos, and Aizawl FC against Chennaiyin FC. However, with their unavailability, all the three ISL clubs have got walkovers that AIFF are unwilling to change, reported Goal.

This happened when nine I-League clubs had informed the Indian FA about their unwillingness to participate in the elite knockout tournament after AIFF president Praful Patel didn’t reach out to the clubs. However, it has all changed with the president now assuring on Thursday that he would hold a meeting with the I-League clubs in mid-April following which the I-League clubs had agreed to participate in the tournament.

However, Goal has reported that the matches given as walkovers couldn’t be re-played as per the protocols of the national cup competition, and the federation has made clarified that the regulations must be adhered to as it would be unfair towards the opposing teams otherwise.
