Tottenham star Jan Vertonghen has admitted that losing 7-2 to Bayern Munich is embarrassing for the whole team and that the club can only improve. A stunning defeat, it puts Mauricio Pochettino in a difficult position after he watched his side struggled against Bayern Munich despite a good start.

After being 2-0 ahead against Olympiacos in their first Champions League match of the season, Tottenham only took a single point from Greece. Yesterday, the Spurs were also in the lead early in the game against Bayern but suffered a huge 7-2 defeat. Former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry was the player of the game with 4 goals in the second half.

Tottenham's central defender Jan Vertonghen expressed the team's embarrassment after the match in an interview with talkSport. The 32-year-old talked about Bayern's efficiency, 7 goals in 10 shots on target, and went on to add what the team needs to do to overcome last night's nightmare.

“I feel extremely hurt - all negative words. It’s embarrassing. It’s a very bad result. I felt like they were extremely clinical. There’s never an explanation for a score like this, but they punished us with every single mistake we made. We let the players and everyone at the club down with this result. It’s tough. I’m not talking about other players, I’m talking about myself, about my feeling to watch everyone around the club. It’s a very bad result and I don’t want to speak too much," admitted Jan Vertonghen.

This is Tottenham's fourth defeat of the season, a run that includes defeats to Newcastle, Leicester and an unexpected Carabao Cup loss against Colchester on penalties. Mauricio Pochettino's team has only managed to win 2 games out of 10, after reaching the Champions League final, and that's a worrying run of form admits Vertonghen.

"It’s good that the next game at Brighton is already in a couple of days. We have to get back together - and I feel like the group is together - to overcome this defeat. The next game on Saturday will be a good moment to get rid of, not 100%, but a bit of this feeling. Keep supporting us. I believe we have the people in the team to overcome this situation," concluded the Belgian.
