Johan Cruyff would love the way Manchester City are playing, claims Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola has admitted that legendary manager Johan Cruyff would love the way his Manchester City play their football. Despite an injury crisis, Manchester City still sit in second place on the Premier League table a mere five points behind Liverpool and lead their Champions League group.
Manchester City have been far from brilliant this season but they have been ruthless when on the front foot. Much like Bayern Munich, the Cityzens’ have managed to hit the same heights of last season even handing Watford an unbelievable 8-0 thrashing in the Premier League. They did the same in the FA Cup final at the end of last season and have continued in the same vein this season. Yet Manchester City are five points behind Liverpool and that margin looks miniscule when compared against Guardiola's side.
However, despite being plagued with injuries to their back-line Guardiola’s plan at the moment does seem to be outscoring teams and it’s working. It has seen the Cityzens play some wonderful football and the former Barcelona manager, in an interview with Soccerbible, went on to admit that Johan Cruyff would love the football that Manchester City are playing. The Spaniard went on to cite the legendary manager as the most influential figure he has ever meet and believes that the Dutch legend would love English football.
“Johan Cruyff is the most influential person I ever had in my career. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2016 and he cannot enjoy with us what we are doing in England, because the way we play came from what I learned from him. That’s why I’m sure he would be incredibly satisfied that we are playing in this incredible country, where football culture is everywhere, the way we are, the way we have done, its’ great,” Guardiola told Soccerbible.
