Manchester United will start winning trophies soon, claims Juan Mata

Juan Mata believes that Manchester United will start winning very soon as he believes that they are hungry for trophies. The Red Devils have struggled to do much under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, last winning a trophy under Jose Mourinho, and face a tough road ahead in the Europa League and the FA Cup.

While they did play relatively well under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer towards the end of last season, Manchester United failed to get their hands on any silverware. The last time the club won something was under Jose Mourinho, when the Portuguese manager helped the club win the Community Shield, the English League Cup and the Europa League in his first season. Since then, the Red Devils have failed to win anything even losing out to Chelsea in the finals of the 2018 FA Cup.

However, despite that, Manchester United star Juan Mata believes that the club will start winning silverware very soon. In an interview with Manutd.com, the Spaniard went on to admit that the club is hungry to win something and that he wants to win something important before his contract expires.

“I think that when the club says we’re going to take time and the manager as well, we don’t believe it’s going to be too long. I think this club, since I’ve been born, has always been winning. Ole has won here a lot as a player and, for me, personally, I have been here for a few years already and won a few things,” said the Spaniard to Manutd.com.

“But obviously, my aim in my mind is only to win something important with United. I believe that during my time here as a player we can do it. Obviously, we know other teams are doing things well and playing very good football, but I think that winning a trophy with United is possible and that, now, in the final part of my career, is my biggest opportunity.”

With Manchester United struggling to get off to a good start in the Premier League, they’ve had to watch as Liverpool and Manchester City flew out of the gates. Both sides sit first and second on the league table respectively and the Red Devils sit 13 points behind Liverpool in tenth place. This has seen Mata concede that winning the Premier league title will be hard but added that it was not impossible.

“Well, it is what it is. The rivals are playing good, they’re winning trophies. But, as I said when I renewed my contract here, to be a Manchester United player is something really special and if I can win a trophy here during my time playing it will be incredible and it would be worth the wait, for sure,” concluded the Spaniard.
