Serie A outfit AC Milan are looking at the prospect of signing Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren as the club seeks defensive reinforcements during the winter transfer window. Lovren has seen his playing time get reduced as Jurgen Klopp prefers Joel Matip as Virgil van Dijk’s partner over the Croatian.

Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren might once again be the subject of talk among pundits as the defender is likely to receive another transfer offer luring him out of Anfield. According to English outlet Daily Mail, AC Milan are interested in signing Lovren if Milan’s Mattia Caldara continues to struggle for fitness. Caldara signed for Milan from Juventus in 2018 but has barely featured for the Rossoneri as he has been continuously brought down by injuries.

Since Caldara’s arrival at the San Siro, the player has suffered a number of long-term injuries, including an Achilles rupture and an ACL tear. The 25 year old has missed an astonishing 44 games for the Milan club since joining from the Old Lady and now the club chiefs are running out of patience with the defender. Daily Mail’s report further added that if Caldara shows no signs of making a return to the squad, Milan are ready to make another effort to sign Lovren from Liverpool.

The Liverpool centre back was linked to Italy in the summer with both AS Roma and Milan making numerous unsuccessful attempts to sign the 30 year old. Jurgen Klopp persuaded Lovren to stay indicating that he is needed in the squad if the Merseyside club is to challenge on all fronts but since game time hasn’t come easy for Lovren, he might be willing to reconsider his options. The 2018 World Cup finalist has 174 appearances for Liverpool since his move from Southampton in 2014. Milan are looking to strengthen their defence and view Lovren as the perfect candidate to provide assurance at the back.
