Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has indicated that he is willing to return to management in the Premier League and is open to the prospect of managing Arsenal if the job is available. The Portuguese is out of a job since being sacked by Manchester United in December 2018.

According to English outlet ESPN, Jose Mourinho would be interested in the Arsenal manager's job if it became available. Mourinho is out of a job since December but has appeared on television as a Football Pundit on regular occasions. The former Inter manager has also used the free time to learn German as he thinks it is an important language he should know. When Mourinho admitted that he was learning German, rumours started doing grounds of him managing a club in Germany, with Borussia Dortmund being the likely destination. However, ESPN’s report stated that Mourinho favours a return to the Premier League and with Arsenal, he’ll try to win trophies.

Unai Emery, the current Arsenal manager has done well with the club since taking over in 2018. The Gunners under Emery’s leadership reached UEFA Europa League final last year and have started this season on a strong note as well. Despite failing to take the North London side to UEFA Champions League, Arsenal hierarchy have confidence in the former PSG man. There are no immediate plans to sack Emery and bring in a new manager but as the report suggested, Mourinho would be open to talking to the club if the position became vacant.

The 56 year old Mourinho has been linked to Real Madrid job a couple of times in the past year but nothing substantial was agreed upon. A number of clubs have tried to bring Mourinho in their dugout but the Portuguese has expressed to return to the Premier League. The former Chelsea manager feels he’ll have a better chance at winning trophies with a club like Arsenal.

Mourinho won three league titles with Chelsea, but he would need assurances from the Arsenal owners that the conditions were suitable to allow a serious challenge at silverware. Mourinho was present at the Emirates and watched Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Vitoria Guimaraes in the UEFA Europa League. With the “Special One” interested in the Arsenal job, Emery has come under pressure to deliver success at the club or else he might have to make way for Mourinho.
