With the Premier League season reaching its crucial stage, Liverpool extended their lead at the top to 13 points after a dominant 2-0 victory over Newcastle. Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai in the 11th minute and Alexis Mac Allister in the 60th minute secured the win, taking Liverpool to 66 points from 26 matches. Their closest rivals, Arsenal, were held to a 0-0 draw at Nottingham Forest, allowing Liverpool to further solidify their position.

Under manager Arne Slot, Liverpool remains unbeaten in 24 league games and is on course to secure its record-equalling 20th English top-flight title, and only their second in the last 35 years. This victory also capped a grueling stretch of five Premier League matches in 15 days, from which Liverpool collected 11 points, doubling their six-point lead from two weeks ago.

Despite Slot serving a two-match touchline ban for a red card during the Merseyside derby, Liverpool’s strong mentality shone through. Mohamed Salah, although ending his eight-game scoring streak, made a significant impact by providing his 22nd assist of the season for Mac Allister’s goal.

Newcastle, missing 21-goal top scorer Alexander Isak due to injury, struggled in attack. Stand-in striker Callum Wilson missed a key chance, and goalkeeper Nick Pope failed to stop Szoboszlai’s opener. The defeat leaves Newcastle in sixth place with 44 points, three points away from the top four.

With the Anfield crowd chanting "We're going to win the league," Liverpool’s path to the title appears inevitable. Unless a dramatic collapse occurs, they could be crowned champions before the season ends in May, reaffirming their dominance in English football.
