When the January transfer window fuels speculation across Europe, Ruben Neves has emerged as one of the most discussed names, with rumors linking him to Real Madrid and other top clubs. However, recent reports suggest that the Portuguese midfielder is now close to committing his future to Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League. According to Fabrizio Romano, negotiations are in the final stages for a new three year contract, despite strong interest from European teams.
Neves joined Al Hilal in 2023 after spending six seasons at Wolverhampton, following Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Saudi Arabia. Since then, he has become a key figure for the club, making 119 appearances, scoring 18 goals, and winning four major titles, including the 2023-24 league championship. His consistent performances have convinced Al Hilal to secure him with a long term extension.
Although his contract was set to expire at the end of the current season, making him an attractive free agent option, Neves appears satisfied in Saudi Arabia. Importantly, his move has not harmed his international career. He remains a regular member of Portugal’s squad under Roberto Martinez, starting four of six World Cup qualifiers.
When the possibility of a return to Europe seemed realistic, Neves instead chose stability and success, strengthening his chances of joining Cristiano Ronaldo at the upcoming World Cup.
