Bengal coach Jagdish Kumble has claimed there is a surge in confidence after Bengal Warriors registered a narrow 27-24 victory against Tamil Thalaivas on Friday to start the home leg on a positive note. Meanwhile, Ran Singh highlighted that his defence needs to improve as the home leg progresses.

Bengal Warriors got off to a morale boosting start in the home leg of this year’s Pro Kabaddi League which is being played at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Friday. The home team registered a narrow 27-24 win against Tamil Thalaivas to set the tone for the rest of the home leg in the coming weeks.

Winning coach, Jagdish Kumble, heaped praise on his players who kept their calm and pulled off a win in the opening match at home.

"This was our final match against Tamil Thalaivas. We had won our previous two games against them and so we were confident. We committed a few errors initially and hence the game was close. Winning the opening match of the leg also gives us confidence going ahead. The win makes it easier for us as we are aware of what we need to do now to go ahead," Kumble said at a post-match press conference.

Meanwhile, Warriors’ defender Ran Singh who missed out on a High five by just one tackle in the game last night, congratulated teammate Jang Kun Lee for a brilliant performance against the Tamil Nadu-based franchise. Lee starred for the hosts’ as he returned his second Super 10 of the season.

"Previously, we haven’t had a raider to support Maninder Singh consistently. Jang Kun Lee performed that job today. If he is able to continue this form, we will win all our upcoming games as well. This was our first home game and it was important for us to win. Lee reduced the pressure on the others with a strong performance.

"The defence committed a few errors at the start of the game. It was a fast game and we were a little loose in defence. However, we recovered well to win the game. If Surjeet Singh performs well, then we have every chance of winning games," Singh said.
