Ravichandran Ashwin moved to joint-third with Kapil Dev on the Indian list for the most number of five-wicket hauls in Test cricket after the Tamil Nadu off-spinner dismissed Ben Stokes in England’s first innings in the Mumbai Test on the second day to complete his 23th fifter in only his 43th Test.

Leg-spinner Anil Kumble, the current India coach, heads the list with 35 fifers in 132 matches, followed by Harbhajan Singh, who has taken five wickets in an innings on 25 occasions.

England got off to a good start in the fourth Test thanks to a century on debut by opener Keaton Jennings, but a devastating spell by Ashwin post tea on the first day, where he claimed three quick wickets, brought the hosts back into the game.

Stokes became Ashwin’s fifth victim of the innings in the opening session of day two when the all-rounder edged to Virat Kohli in the slips.
