Alastair Cook: Jimmy's comments on Kohli blown out of proportion

Virat Kohli continued his magnificent form as he scored 235 runs to bail India out from the soup in the first innings of the fourth Test in Mumbai. But the English pacer James Anderson had claimed that the slow Indian pitches do not expose the Indian batsman’s weaknesses.

This statement about Virat compelled Ashwin, who started saying something to Anderson as soon as he entered the field to bat, to take matters into his own hands. Kohli tried to calm things down in the middle and Ashwin went back to his run-up to complete his over, in fact, to end the innings of England.

But Ashwin’s comments didn’t go well with a visibly frustrated English skipper Alastair Cook, who called the incident as “a disappointing end” considering the fact the tournament has been played with grace so far.

"It was a bit of a sour end, a disappointing end in terms of how well the spirit between both sides has been," he said. "It was clearly in reference to what Jimmy said yesterday, which is kind of getting blown out of all proportions, as it can do here. He was just stating a fact about Virat which is probably true. Yeah, (Ashwin) was just obviously sticking up for his captain, which I thought was slightly unnecessary," Cook said.

Anderson had brought up the failure of Virat Kohli in the 2014 tour to England and said that the current Indian Captain had not been tested yet. Kohli appeared to be unimpacted by the whole issue stating that he had told Anderson that to move on from the whole situation.
