Fitness regimes of sportsmen are always the object of intense curiosity (imagine Phelps), but rarely has an Indian athlete's regime evoked such reactions. But it's Virat Kohli, and with the form that he is in right now, the Test skipper answered quite a few when he revealed his fitness regime.

Earlier in the season, Virat had laid out how consistent he was with his training schedule and eating habits. "It is a conscious effort, to be very honest. It is more like ‘Eat, sleep, train, repeat’. If you want to be consistent, you need to be boring with your training, your food, and your batting habits," he had said.

Talking to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) mascot 'Mr. Nags' on the team's official YouTube channel, the team captain revealed his daily work-out regime. He also credited RCB trainer Shankar Basu, who is also the strength and conditioning coach of the Indian team, for introducing him to weightlifting.

"Fitness regime is pretty simple. There is a big role of our trainer, Mr. Basu, who also trains the RCB team, and is the Indian team trainer," Kohli said in the interview.

"He introduced me to weight-lifting, and that has made me realise what actually one needs to do. It's a thing that one needs to get a knowledge of.

"I don't do upper body. I only work on my legs for explosive power. He makes me do a crazy number of squats, close to a 100 in a session.

"You cannot take the sport for granted. During the last match [against Mumbai Indians] I told Dan [Daniel Vettori, the Royal Challengers head coach] that I felt like I could hit every ball of the first over from Tim Southee for a six. But I stopped myself because I don't want to disrespect the sport. I want to build my innings, in the same way, every time I go into bat," added Kohli.
