IPL 2017 | Muralitharan slams Manjrekar on Pollard controversy
Muttiah Muralitharan is the latest big name to give his take on the ugly spat between Kieron Pollard and Sanjay Manjrekar, siding with the former. Manjrekar's "brainless" remark on Pollard while commentating on MI's clash against KKR resulted in the West Indian issuing a strong response.
Pollard scored a run-a-ball 17 and cricketer-turned-commentator Manjrekar got stuck into Pollard saying, “Pollard does not have the brains to play early in the innings.” Pollard responded with a series of Tweets, stating that Manjrekar could continue with his "verbal diarrhea".
"I think it is about both parties; not just Pollard or even Sanjay Manjrekar. He should also not have commented in public that he is not suited to bat in the top order. It is criticism. It should not be done openly," Muralitharan told India Today.
"He has got (nearly) 7000 runs in the T20 format of the game. So how can someone who has got all these runs not fit in the top order? These are harsh words and his opinion. And the player can respond in his way."
Twitter, where Pollard issued his response, saw a discussion on Manjrekar's analysis with some people criticising the 29-year-old Trinidadian for his offensive language. However, quite a few people were critical the Indian's comments as well.
Manjrekar, usually very active on Twitter, has chosen not to talk about the issue on social media.
