WATCH | Mason Crane plucks one out of thin air to send Roston Chase packing

Things were going well for Roston Chase at the crease as he had worked himself to 30 off 57 balls in West Indies’ second innings against England at Headingley. Having got his eye in, the West Indian all-rounder decided to take a risk against Chris Woakes by attacking the pacer. However, it didn't pay off as on the first ball of the 76th over of the West Indian second innings, he miscued a shot. 

Though the ball was chipped to the left of mid on and seemed destined to be headed to the boundary, Crane had other ideas as he lept at full stretch to his left and grabbed the ball with both hands in mid-air. Moreover, this was Crane’s first involvement in the game, having come onto the field as a replacement for James Anderson literally the ball before. 

As commendable as Crane’s effort was, it proved futile in the larger scheme of things as the West Indies won the second Test by five wickets. Having opted to bat first, the hosts were dismissed for a sub-par score of 258 in their first innings, as Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel both picked up four wickets hauls for the Caribbeans. In response, the Windies racked up a massive total of 427 in their first innings as Kraigg Brathwaite (134) and Shai Hope (147) were the top scorers, which gave them a 169-run lead. In their second innings, England set West Indies a target of 317, which the visitors managed to chase down with 5 wickets to spare and tie the three-match Test series at 1-1.
