Rohit Sharma : Scoring double-hundred in T20Is is too much to ask

Rohit Sharma was in top form yet again at the Holkar Stadium in Indore yesterday as he sent both the Sri Lankans and the crowd into a tizzy with a mind-boggling exhibition of big-hitting and classic timing. With 12 fours and 10 sixes that amounted for 108 of his 118 runs, Rohit led his way to an incredible hundred, the joint-fastest in T20Is, equalling David Miller's 35-ball blitzkrieg against Bangladesh earlier this year. It was only 11 overs when he completed his century and his fans genuinely believed that he could smash his way to a double century as well. 

On being asked if he wanted to go for the unprecedented landmark, Rohit said, "That's too much to ask (a double-hundred). I was just trying to get as much runs as possible. Any target here is not defendable here. 

"There is a template to my batting, which I follow. Try to hold my shape. The stage was set, good conditions to bat. I was trying to do what I do, hit through the line. It came off really well. I went out there and had some fun."

Although the Indian skipper’s second century in the shortest format of the game set up India's win, two wrist-spinners - Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav – were also impressive with the ball as the duo shared seven wickets between them to bowl Sri Lanka out inside 18 overs to hand India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. And Rohit said he was always confident that the duo would bring Indian back into the game.

"They have been doing well for India and always they bring us back," said Rohit.

"I don't mind such games where they are put under pressure, they were ready to take the pressure and Kuldeep changed the game and Chahal has been doing well for some time now. So I always had belief in them."

Rohit also heaped praise on KL Rahul, who scored his second successive half-century to lead India to a comfortable first innings score. However, the way he hit those sixes – pure timing and a pure orthodox approach to the game – pleased his opening partner the most.

"KL is in great form. He was exceptional today. It was pleasing to watch him play from the other end."
