Player Ratings | Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul star in India’s 88-run victory against Sri Lanka

Rohit Sharma - (10/10): Just another validation of Rohit’s immense talent and ability to hit clean without putting in a lot of power. Rohit Sharma has always come across as a supremely-talented batsman and in Indore, today, he showcased why there no better timer of a cricket ball than him. His second century in T20Is – first Indian to do so – had written monster all over it and it would give the Lankans yet another nightmare for sure. 

KL Rahul - (9/10): Second successive fifty-plus score for the Karnataka opener who rekindled his hopes of making his way back to the 50-over format. Although Sri Lanka’s wayward bowling display was the main reason for the carnage, nothing could be taken away from the talented batsman who has found a new lease of life after the innings. In the T20I series, he also made a case for himself for a long run in the shortest format of the game and that might give Shikhar Dhawan something to worry about.

MS Dhoni - (7/10): MS Dhoni got another promotion in the batting order, but this time to No.3. He made his intentions clear with two consecutive boundaries in the very first over and contributed well with the bat scoring 28 runs at a strike rate of 133.33. However, with the other batsmen scoring at a faster rate, he most certainly could have done better. Dhoni has also run his “Coaching class behind the stumps”, as Sanjay Manjrekar put it, while effecting two stumpings of his own. 

Shreyas Iyer - (6.5/10): The Mumbaikar came out to bat in the last over itself, should not have been blamed for getting a golden duck. After three sublime innings – ODIs and T20Is combined – Iyer has thrown his hat into the ring for the No.4 spot and has done enough to get an extended chance in the Playing XI. 

Manish Pandey - (7.5/10): Pandey got a chance to bat in the final over and managed to score a solitary run off one ball. However, like always, the Karnataka lad was a livewire in the field and despite the dew causing a lot of problems for the fielders, he was unperturbed by the same and restricted many balls from crossing the boundaries.  

Dinesh Karthik - (6/10): The Tamil Nadu batsman did not get a chance to bat in the last match and was hoping to contribute today. But Rohit Sharma’s carnage at the top of the order meant, he could only face two balls and managed to score 5 runs, including a first-ball boundary.

Hardik Pandya - (7.5/10): The all-rounder had a mixed day in Indore. After scoring a useful 10 runs off three balls, he bowled brilliantly and accounted for Dushmantha Chameera. He was the most economical of the lot and gave away only 6.90 runs per over.

Jaydev Unadkat - (7/10): The Saurashtra pacer opened the bowling for India and didn’t allow the Lankan openers to open their arms. However, he would not have been disappointed about his performance today, given he conceded runs at seven runs per over and picked up the wicket of dangerous-looking Niroshan Dickwella.

Kuldeep Yadav - (7/10): For obvious reasons, it was a graveyard of a pitch for any spinner to bowl and for Kuldeep, it was no different. He was taken to cleaners by the Lankan batsmen but did get the better of Kusal Perera, Thisara Perera, and Asela Gunaratne in a single over to open the floodgates for his side at the end.

Yuzvendra Chahal - (7.5/10):  The leggie had a field-day again and was instrumental in keeping the Lankans under 200. Although like Kuldeep, his lengths had been picked without any difficulties by Kusal and Tharanga, he was too hot to handle for the tail-enders.

Jasprit Bumrah - (6/10): Bumrah, the spearhead of the attack, has surprisingly been silent this series and yet to pick up a wicket. But that doesn’t take away his importance as he led the way with parsimonious bowling display. He would love to come back in wickets at the Wankhede, a venue that he knows all too well thanks to his association with Mumbai Indians.
