Sunil Gavaskar expects Virat Kohli will rewrite most of the batting records if he continues batting in this vein. The other Little Master, Sachin Tendulkar, also lauded the Indian captain's exceptional run, saying the sound of Kohli's willow is sufficient to comprehend the kind of form he is in.

Kohli became the first batsman to score a double hundred each in four consecutive Test series when he struck 204 in the ongoing Test against Bangladesh. Australia's Ricky Ponting had earlier said that Kohli does not qualify as a Test great yet because he hasn't played enough, but Gavaskar said Kohli has the capability to own every single batting record in the game by the end of his career.

"In my book, he is a great. He is on his way to becoming a legend. I think that is eventually going to happen, sooner rather than later. The way he is batting he is going to rewrite the record books. Most of the batting records, if not all, are going to be his," Gavaskar told NDTV.

"Vijay's hundred was a very good display, Pujara's 83 was a very good innings, and maybe their partnership softened it a little bit for Virat. But when Virat came he just took the attack by the scruff of the neck and I think that is what makes him special - he completely destroys the confidence of the opposition bowlers."

In scoring his fourth double century, Kohli joined an elite club of Indian players who have scored four or more double centuries. The India captain drew level with Gavaskar and is behind Rahul Dravid (5), Sachin Tendulkar (6) and Virender Sehwag (6).

Asked how he would welcome Kohli to this club, Gavaskar said, "It would be a very hearty welcome because it is his double hundreds that are paving the way for an Indian win. In Virat's case, every time he has scored a double hundred, India have won. It is something absolutely incredible.

"Four double hundreds in four different series against four different opponents, the mind just boggles at the thought of what is going to happen in the next four Test matches (against Australia)."

Meanwhile, Tendulkar tweeted, "The sweet spot on your bat speaks about the awesome form you are in, don't need scoreboards.May god always keep your bat like that @imVkohli."
