Mitchell Johnson, who had many storied battles with Virat Kohli when India last toured Australia, has said that the Indian skipper's maturity has guided him to the highest level of the game. Johnson is astonished at how Kohli can take on both spinners and fast bowlers with ease in all the formats.

Virat Kohli's spectacular rise over the past few years has seen many former cricketers being left in awe of the man, and former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson is one of them. He has credited the Indian skipper's maturity for his rise to the top of world cricket.

Johnson and Kohli had some intense verbal tussles when India last toured Australia, but Kohli responded in fashion and scored 692 runs in the 4 tests then. That series is regarded by many experts as the beginning of Kohli, the Test batsman.

"Now Virat has been extremely mature. He has been calmer and quiet while batting. Now I see he does not look ecstatic even after scoring a century. His maturity has guided to reach the highest level of the game," Johnson said, reported OneIndia.

"He is amazingly superb in all three formats of the game nowadays. I am also astonished to have watched the regality in his batting against both the spinners as well as against the fast bowlers also. I hope our bowlers have had an intense preparation on and off the pitch about how to find out the weakness of Kohli. They must have to do it during the Test series also. Otherwise, Kohli will be as destructive as he has been against our bowlers also," he added.

The first Test match of theBorder-Gavaskar Trophy begins in Pune on February 23.
