A day after claiming that the BCCI could not afford him as Indian coach, Shane Warne has clarified his comments were meant to be a light-hearted joke. The Australian legend also said that his comment about Virat Kohli was completely made up terming the report as ‘ very disappointing journalism'.

Given that Australian spin king Shane Warne has ample of experience playing against India and is also familiar with the Indian conditions, he was asked about the possibility of coaching the Indian cricket team day before. But he responded by saying, “I am very expensive, I don’t think they can afford me. Virat Kohli and me can have a good partnership, but as I said, I am very, very expensive,” as reported by the Mid- Day.

However, the 47-year-old took to Twitter yesterday to clear the air about his comments. He defended himself by tweeting:

Warne was asked about the possibility of coaching India given that he previously was the captain of Rajasthan Royals from 2008 to 2011 and is not new to mentoring Indian youngsters. However, Warne’s response now means that the BCCI will now consider the incumbent Anil Kumble, Virender Sehwag, former Australian fast bowler and Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody, Englishman Richard Pybus and former India cricketers Dodda Ganesh and domestic veteran Lalchand Rajput for the post.

Finally, although Craig McDermott had also applied for the post, his application arrived later than the June 1 deadline, thus ruling him out of consideration.

Sourav Ganguly is one of the only five cricketers to have achieved the unique treble of 10,000 runs, 100 wickets & 100 catches in ODI cricket. For more fun stats and predictions play the newest fantasy-cum-predictions game in the market - Nostragamus.
