Suresh Raina signed up with Grandslam Club of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) to register for the second edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League. The nascent league will kick off on 22nd July and will feature outstation players in the edition as opposed to the inaugural edition.

"As a player, we want to play wherever we get chance. There is no cricket happening in month of July. So, in order to gain some match practice, I thought to play TNPL. It’s is a good league and there is some good talent playing there. It is always good to have some good competitive games before the domestic season starts.” Raina told The Indian Express.

The organisers of the league announced last month that the competition will feature three outstation players in each of the teams that will compete in the tournament. Each outstation player that holds a central contract with the BCCI would be paid 5 lakhs while List A players would receive 2.5 lakhs.

Reportedly 80 outstation players have registered for inclusion in the league. However, only 24 out of the 80 registered players would be picked via three rounds of the player draft scheduled to happen on June 23.

Suresh Raina is a big name in the Indian Premier League as well as the T20 format and has featured in 259 Twenty20s scoring  6872 runs at a strike rate of 139.

The other big names that have registered for the tournament include Yusuf Pathan, Sanju Samson and Manoj Tiwary while Sandeep Sharma, Ashok Dinda, Unmukt Chand, Manan Vohra and Hanuma Vihari are already registered with the TNCA.
