Yuvraj Singh: Comparison to Trump a huge compliment for Kohli
Yuvraj Singh is the latest to come out in support of Virat Kohli after Australian newspaper Daily Telegraph described the Indian skipper as the ‘Donald Trump of world sport’. Yuvraj said the comparison was a huge compliment. Previously Cheteshwar Pujara has backed Kohli in the incident.
“It’s a big compliment for Virat if Aussie media is comparing him with Trump. It means he is the best,” Yuvraj was quoted as saying by India Today website.
“The series between India and Australia has been really good. Dharamsala should be a good series decider, and even if the series ends tied, we are in for a good Test,” the southpaw added.
Earlier Pujara had come out in support of Kohli, saying, "It’s really sad to hear such comments. We fully support Virat and he is one of the great ambassadors of the game”. Pujara was speaking at a news conference ahead of the fourth Test in Dharamsala starting on Saturday. “The focus has shifted somewhere else. We are focused on the game and he is a great leader. We are looking forward to the next game, rather than worrying about anything else”.
Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke had also slammed the comparison, calling the whole episode ‘a load of shit’. "Comparing Virat Kohli to Donald Trump- what a load of shit. What Virat did, even Smith would have. I could just laugh about the Trump thing (comparison). I find it quite funny and am sure Kohli will also find it quite funny. Bear in mind, I love Kohli and the Australian public love him. It’s just two or three reporters who are trying to tarnish him. I always find an Australian in him and the way he plays and I absolutely love the way he accepts challenges. It’s just two or three reporters who are trying to reporters who are trying to tarnish him, but Virat shouldn’t be bothered," Clarke told India Today website.
The whole episode started when the Daily Telegraph launched a stinging attack on Kohli, comparing him to US President Donald Trump. Earlier, the same newspaper had accused Kohli of throwing a bottle of Gatorade at an Australian official during the second Test in Bengaluru.
