Sunil Narine smashed a half century off just 15 balls in today's match against RCB and joined teammate Yusuf Pathan at the top of the charts for the fastest fifty in the IPL. Along with Chrys Lynn, he also helped KKR become only the second team, after CSK, to score over 100 runs in the Powerplay.

Having watched Chris Lynn race away to 29 off just 14 balls, Sunil Narine decided he had waited enough for his time to shine. The West Indian picked his compatriot Samuel Badree as his first victim. Narine scored 25 off the fourth over that included three consecutive sixes.

Having taken a single off the last delivery, Narine then tore into Sreenath Aravind hitting the Banglaore pacer for three consecutive boundaries as the KKR man reached 44 off just 14 deliveries. As if the tension around the stadium was not high enough, Aravind bowled two back-to back wides to increase the excitement of the Chinnaswamy crowd. However, the KKR man was not be denied a place in the history book as a six over long on brought him level with Yusuf Pathan at the top of the fastest fifty list.The top-4 fastest fifties in IPL after today are:

1. Sunil Narine vs RCB: 15 balls (2017)

1. Yusuf Pathan vs SRH: 15 balls (2014)

3. Suresh Raina vs KXIP: 16 balls (2014)

4. Keiron Pollard vs KKR: 17 balls (2016)

4. Chris Morris vs GL: 17 balls (2016)

4. Adam Gilchrist vs DD: 17 balls (2009)

4. Chris Gayle vs PWI: 17 balls (2013)

Ironically, Narine scored the fastest ever half century of the season batting with the previous record holder Chris Lynn. It was a day when records continued the tumble as KKR also broke the IPL record for most runs scored ever in the Powerplay overs. CSK (100/2) had been the only team who had ever scored a triple digit score in the IPL during the Powerplay overs, but KKR overtook them as well with a huge Chris Lynn shot over deep square leg taking the score to 105/0 after six overs.

Gautam Gambhir has asserted that IPL form should not be a part of the Indian team's selection criteria for the upcoming event. Gambhir, who hasn't represented India since 2013 in ODIs, went on to add that it would be 'selfish' on his part to score runs for KKR just to be considered for the CT squad.
