Hashim Amla became the fastest player to score 7000 ODI runs during his knock of 55 against England in the third ODI yesterday. Amla bettered Kohli’s record of having reached the landmark in 166 innings, as he reached the milestone in just 151 innings while helping South Africa to a 7-wicket win.

Hashim Amla can seemingly do no wrong at the moment. After having slammed 2 centuries for Kings XI Punjab in the recently concluded IPL, the South African opener has now carried his good form into the series against England as well. Incidentally, Amla holds the record for being the fastest player to reach 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, and 6 000 runs as well.

Even though yesterday's game between the South Afaricans and the English will also be remembered for Kagiso Rabada's 4 wicket haul that saw England being reduced to 20/6 in five overs, Amla played his part as well securing a comfortable seven-wicket victory for the visitors.

The game was the last for both sides before their open their Champions Trophy campaigns. England takes on Bangladesh in the tournament opener on June 1, while South Africa take on Sri Lanka on June 3. Finally, both England and South Africa have been touted by many to reach at least the semi-finals of the tournament. While England will bank on their home support and familiarity with the conditions in England and Wales, the Proteas will be looking to shed their tag of being "chokers" on the big stage.
