WATCH: Rohit Sharma smashes Kane Richardson out of ground
Rohit Sharma’s ability to hit a ball a country mile has been well documented and the 30-year-old has showcased this time and time again. Today, against Australia, the Mumbai batsman hit a Kane Richardson delivery so cleanly that not only did he get six runs but the ball also went out of the ground.
Despite starting it off really well, Australia failed to build on the momentum towards the end, allowing India to stage a comeback into the game by restricting the visitors to scoring just 87 runs in the last 15 overs. To add insult to injury, India’s opening duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma found the gaps without any problem to put the pressure right back on the visitors. However, Rohit Sharma's shot off a Kane Richardson delivery could easily become a contender for the “shot of the match”.
After smashing Pat Cummins and Nathan Coulter-Nile for two eye-catching sixes, Rohit brought his monstrous best to the fore in the 8th over. On the third ball of the over, Richardson, after watching Rohit shimming down the wicket, bowled a short of length ball, but the Indian opener wasn't to be outdone. After watching the ball right onto the bat, Sharma executed the pull to the perfection as the ball sailed over the stands at deep square leg.
He didn’t stop after that as well and brought up his 37th ODI fifty in no time as India look perfectly poised to take an unassailable lead of 3-0.
