Playing County will help me improve my game, says Kohli

The 29-year-old skipper has been keen on playing county cricket to improve his forgettable record in England so far. Scoring just a paltry 138 runs in the 10 innings, England has remained the only blot on Kohli’s otherwise glittering career. Having an average of 53.40 in 66 tests that include 21 centuries, Kohli would want to extend his supremacy when India visit England at the end of June.

After India’s 2-1 series loss to South Africa, Kohli had insisted that his side would need sufficient time to settle down and acclimatize to the English conditions. Kohli would be gone for his county stint as soon as the IPL gets over.

"Playing county cricket will help me improve my game," said Kohli in an interview with TOI.

Not taking his success for granted, Kohli said that playing county wouldn’t guarantee him success but it would make the game more intense and competitive. He would also aim to give himself time to settle down in foreign conditions and give himself as many opportunities as possible to perform well. 

"I think it makes things more challenging and more competitive and there are no guarantees whether you are going to do well even if you go in advance. It's just about giving yourself more opportunity to get used to the conditions that you are not used to,” said the Indian skipper.

Kohli would be looking to turn his record upside down in England in justifying his moniker “King Kohli”. Given how committed the skipper has been for the game, he is expected to put in all the work required to do well.
