The number of runs scored in the powerplay overs of T20 game, more often than not, forms the foundation for the rest of the innings for both the batting and bowling side. And MS Dhoni showed how much he values them as he was seen rushing all the way to the boundary and save Quinton de Kock’s mishit.

How often have you seen MS Dhoni leaving his comfy position between behind the stumps to run all the way to the boundary? Well, it needed a special occasion to bring such kind of a feat out of him and what better instance than the Cauvery derby in the IPL.

After the hosts started the match slowly by managing just 13 runs from the first two overs of Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur, Quinton de Kock had to go for the big shots in Chahar’s second over. However, the South African southpaw failed terribly to contact well with a short ball and ended up getting top edging it.

The ball went high up in the air and didn’t cover much ground either, which, in a non-poweplay over, would definitely found a fielder. There wasn’t a one this time and the onus was on Dhoni to stop it. And the skipper, despite having his keeping pads on, showed tremendous commitment to rush all the way back to the deep fine leg boundary and pull the ball back in the nick of time saving two runs for his side. While it was something that is not usually expected from a keeper, Chennai fans will argue that it is just things that their captain does.
